The Service Committee works within the community to identify areas of special need where Messiah can make a difference. Resources, volunteers and/or special offerings are organized to make it happen. The Stewardship Committee works within the congregational body to enlighten, educate and inspire members in their understanding of mankind's role in God's world. Messiah enjoys the rich musical heritage and tradition begun by none other Martin Luther himself. Today we live this out through various liturgies as found in the Lutheran Book of Worship, The Hymnal Supplement, 1995, With One Voice, and several other sources. Hymns are sung throughout worship services, and our outstanding choir performs special music regularly. MLC Sings "Plenty Good Room" (about 2Mb, give it time to load) Messiah's church school program is offered Sundays at 9 a. m. Sunday School begins with "Circle Time", as all ages gather to sing new songs and old, to hear special announcements and to pray together. The different age levels then separate with their dedicated and enthusiastic teachers for lessons based on the Church Year Lectionary. We have found that this "pre-teaching" of the Lessons gives the children a much better chance of understanding the adult service and sermon which follows SS at 10:30 a.m. Many opportunities exist for adult members to also further their own understanding of God's Word and our relationship with God. Adult Forum is offered during the Sunday School hour. This is primarily a discussion-based approach to scripture and other timely topics within the Church. A Vacation Bible School (VBS) program is offered during the summer months. The Congregational Care Committee works to identify special needs of individuals and families within the congregation.
